People often say to me: "Hans, if only I could win the lottery, I'd be rich and happy!" It seems like the fast track to bliss doesn't it? Sadly, this is generally not the case for most lottery winners.
Research around the world has shown that in less than five years after winning the lottery, a majority of winners are more unhappy, more unhealthy and more in debt than before they won the lottery. It seems crazy that the very thing these people most desire, turns out to be the catalyst for an unhappy future.
The reason most people want to win the lottery is that they see this as a means of escaping from the treadmill of always working to pay the bills without ever really having the time and money to enjoy the life that they'd really love to live.
Do you feel that all you ever do is work to pay the bills?
Most people I talk to feel that way.
It's not that everyone necessarily wants to be a millionaire and have half a dozen houses, cars, boats and a private jet. Let's face it, - most people just want to enjoy their lives and live comfortably without having to always worry about where the next dollar is going to come from.
Do you remember not having enough money to repair the broken washing machine or to pay for the new tyres on the car.
Do you remember how that felt?!
It hurt, didn't it.
My research and experience has told me that what most people would really like to do is become financially independent and that means something different to different people. It all comes down to how much money you need to live the life of your dreams.
