A New Prospecting Tool For People In Networking Marketing

I have always had a great regard for people in the network marketing or consumer direct sales industry because they have the desire to improve their financial circumstances and are willing to go out and face their greatest fears to do so.

Often they hold down full-time jobs, look after a family while spending many evenings and weekends contacting people about their business, giving presentations and helping their team members build their organisations. They attend training meetings, motivational sessions and meet many new people. The networking experience offers the opportunity for tremendous personal growth as well as additional income, travel and other benefits.

It is both inspirational and educational. It is a great prospecting tool too because it opens the minds of your propspects to the idea of actually creating an extra income source before you go and give your business presentation.

This book is based on my personal experience as a successful MLM networker.

I spent over 10 years in the direct sales industry and in network marketing before starting my professional writing and speaking career. During my time in the industry I enjoyed a substantial six figure income and acieved company car status. If you are willing to make the commitment and do what it takes; if you are willing to be trained and if you are willing to speak to people you haven't met before, I believe that network marketing can be an excellent means of improving your financial situation for a modest financial outlay.

In the Cash Cows book I talk about three important sources of income which you can use to build your very own Parthenon of financial independence.

The first pillar consists of the active linear income you create through a job, either as an employee or in your working role as a business manager. Although this is a very worthwhile and important source of income, it is not a very effective wealth building strategy to simply rely on this source of income. This source of income depends entirely on your personal exertion and does not provide you with any leverage at all. A part of your personal income needs to be set aside to build your third pillar – your passive income portfolio, if you want to become wealthy.

The second pillar is your business pillar. I believe that regardless of whether you have a job or not, everyone needs at least one business, if you want to become financially independent. When you are conducting a business, even if it is part-time, you generally have a lot more tax and income protection options open to you than when you are an employee. By having a business you can amplify your income to reach your goals sooner.

A networking business is something that is achievable for most people. It is something that can be started with limited capital and can provide enormous returns on the money invested. In most cases, you can get started for just a few hundred dollars and with some effort and training you can generate substantial incomes and other bonuses such as cars and travel. All that is required is a consistent and persistent input of your time and a system of talking to people about your business opportunity. The industry provides an opportunity for personal growth and development and the chance to meet many new people and to make new friends. Most importantly, it offers the opportunity of earning a residual income. This feature in particular can make the early efforts involved in building a network very financially rewarding in the long run.

Of course not everyone succeeds in network marketing. There are many reasons for this and some of them fall back onto the individual networkers themselves.

One reason for failure is that some people find it difficult to explain their business opportunity in such a way that their prospect is willing to listen to what they have to offer. Often it may be necessary to get the prospect to open their mind to the whole concept of creating an extra source of income first, before presenting the business opportunity to them.

It’s a bit like a farmer who wants to plant his seed into the ground. He can’t simply go and spread the seed around and hope that he will get a good harvest. First he must plough the ground and harrow it to prepare the ground for planting. It’s only then that he goes and plants the seed.

You will notice also that the farmer must wait for the seed to germinate, grow and ripen before he can reap his harvest. He simply cannot sow and reap at the same time. It just doesn’t work that way. He needs to go through a specific process in order to enjoy success.

What do most networkers do?

Most networkers rush straight in and present their business opportunity without first preparing their prospect for the idea of creating an extra source of income. They then wonder why their prospect cannot see the big picture. They cannot understand why their prospect has no desire to get involved. They are met with a barrage of objections and concerns which they often cannot deal with satisfactorily and which sometimes causes them to doubt their own convictions about their business opportunity.

A smart networker understands that building a networking business is a sorting process and not a convincing contest. A strategic networker prepares his or her prospect for the whole concept of creating an extra source of income before they launch into their business presentation. They build rapport and look for the spark of desire in their prospect. A clever networker wants to spend their time talking to self motivated prospects that have a desire to make some positive changes to increase their incomes and who are willing to put in the effort to achieve this.
